Masked off the area beyond ~10mm near the foam LE block, to avoid getting epoxy
beyond that line. This should help me to sand off the edge of the fiberglass
later. Covered the rudder in plastic film. Installed the rudder on two foam
props vertically.
Cut the 50g fiberglass on a bias - two strips - a bit oversized. Mixed epoxy and
divided it into two parts, one with microballoons ("wet micro"), and one clear.
Covered the foam LE block with wet micro to fill in all defects. Not sure this
was the right way to go, we'll see later... Applied and blotted down one layer
of fiberglass. Then the second layer. Rolled more epoxy with a "shaved" paint
roller. I had to mix two additional small batches of epoxy, for a total of about
70g, a part of it was left in the unused micro mix, and some in the paint roller.
But still I was surprized at how much was needed to get the fiberglass
oversaturated.
Two hours later - the epoxy got to the "green" stage - I trimmed the overhangs
and the edges along the masking tape. This will reduce my future amount of sanding, hopefully.
