Sanded the areas around the control horns. Glued a small piece of plywood inside the shear web to
close the original opening for the hinge (recall, I repositioned the hinge down
by ~25mm).
I have ordered but have not received yet the red tint for varnish (as recommended by Igor Spacek),
but I happened to have some graphite powder. So I used a pinch of graphite powder to
color a small amount of water based varnish that I had on hand. Varnished the interior
of the first skin and the spar.
Cut out the second skin. Marked and drew outlines of all
elements on the skin. Masked off the future bonding areas. Varnished the second
skin. A minor concern - the skin bowed out since one side was moist from the
varnish. Maybe because I diluted the varnish slightly with water. Once the
varnish dried off a little, I lightly sprayed the opposite side of the plywood,
and loaded the skin with books to keep it straight. Hopefully this will help. I
did not notice the bowing out as much on the first skin, but probably only
because it is attached to the skeleton.
